WipedOut

In-game ad spot pulled after complaints about prolonged loading times

An agreement between in-game ad firm Double Fusion and PS3 platform holder Sony has hit a stumbling block today with news that a new advertisement recently introduced in download-only racing title WipEout HD has been removed.

The decision comes after reports that the ad has doubled loading times between tracks with users forced to wait for the completion of it before gameplay is allowed to commence.

An SCEE spokesperson told Eurogamer: “The ad has been removed from WipEout HD and we are investigating the situation to ensure that any in-game advertising does not affect gameplay.”

/// any of you rocket jockies notice anything different with the load times or is it just a case of OH NOES I HAS TO WEIGHT AN XTRA 2 SECONZ TO lAODS!!11!!! i don't play the game personally as i have never got on with that control system, shame really has it does look great watching others play it. is it wrong to just leave it playing in demo mode so i can listen to the musics and watch the pretty colours?

  1. You are missing out on a great game Tone. It also has custom soundtracks so you get get busy to 'We Have Explosive' by FSOL and re-live those classic Wipeout 2097 moments.

I must get round to buying the Fury expansion at some point!

  2. Good to hear that Sony are listening to complaints then. However, now Sony have caved in to the moaners' demands, they'll only fuel the moaning!

I forgot all about the custom soundtrack gubbings. I'm gonna fire this up later, with The Prodigy album Invaders Must Die blasting out in the background as I bash every wall all the way around the track like I normally do - and get lapped by those L337 k1Dz on there.

Two words for you, MobileTone - Pilot Assist! It's a little bit embarrassing to use it online - (kind of like going out to show the cool kids your new bike and leaving the stabilisers on) but good to use offline if you're prone to track wall bashing like me.

  3. @ pablo - i've kinda disliked Wipeout ever since day one on the PSX i can see why people do like it though but i've never ever ever got on with that stupid air brake deal. a 'classic' wipeout moment for me would be swearing at the TV then throwing my controller at the wall :)

@ reakt - hmm, i did try that and i still sucked balls. if a game =/= fun i stop playing it, that rule went for Resi Evil 5 too, pile of shite that was, and if one more person says 'you should play Bioshock' i'll cram the box up their poop hole. i dislike Burnout Paradise for several reasons also.

i'll take anyone on at Ridge Racer though :D that was the first game i fired up soon as i got my spanky 1080p screen plugged in. sex.

been getting into Golden Axe recently too, i think it's pretty good and can't see why all the hate in the reviews about it. Also finally playing more Assassins Creed (about time yeah) if there's one thing the summer games drought is good for and that's catching up on the older stuff.

  4. Wipey HD = awsome, fury = awesome x 5, total grade AAA title, loving it. Glad they pulled the ads, if the game was free they could mess with the load times all they liked, but as it is... yunno.
