questions questions

With E3 a matter of mere weeks away, I'm curious to hear your predictions of the major news to emerge from the show. In the "console war" space, what - if anything - might we see from Sony and Microsoft to combat the runaway success of the Wii? And, more generally speaking, what new game announcements from first and third-party publishers are you anticipating?

Recently, we've heard whispers that Sony may unveil a redesigned PlayStation Portable, potentially abandoning the UMD format in favour of digital delivery. And, as rumoured prior to last year's show, we're once again hearing that Microsoft may roll out some kind of motion control technology. Meanwhile, Nintendo have yet to announce a single first-party game for the latter half of 2009.

What do you think the "big three" should be revealing at E3? And what do you think they will end up announcing?

  1. Microsoft are apparently launching a new Zune in June (hey I'm a poet and I didn't know it!). I'll bet that they include some crappy gaming feature in there and launch it at E3. I think Sony will defo announce the new PSP. Don't think there will be a PS3 price cut. Nintendo? Hmmm, just speculation but HD version of the wii maybe (just a mock-up and demo of course). Will Apple make an impression at E3 this year I wonder. Bearing in mind they have a billion downloads from their app store - with a heck of a lot of those being games - downloaded for iphone and ipod touch of course. Does that mean they've sold more games in the last year than all the console makers put together? Maybe Apple will even show off an early version of their next iphone with some new / better games?!? (although that would be unlikely as Apple tend to announce their products at their own dedicated events).
