This was my wife just now....

My phone rang, it's my missus:

"Jim, I'm in Toys R Us, they've got the PS3 120GB for 229, shall I get it for you..."

YEAH GEDDIT!

"OK babes see you in a bit"

Happy days! She knows what GB are!

  4. Congratulations!

Pity your wife doesn't shop online though:

    "Sony Playstation 3 250GB + Uncharted 2 + Bioshock 2 + HDMI Cable £265.50 @ Amazon"

Hopefully it is still not too late to return your 120Gb model.

  5. If it was me I'd be content with the 120gb deal as it's less painful on the wallet! Tough times and all that! The difference in price would cover the cost of a 250gb HDD upgrade if the 120 was ever filled (e.g. Seagate or WD from Dabs).

  7. @ Sketchy - try locking them in a cupboard until they submit to your ps3 owning desires.

  9. Which manufacturer's 360Gb hard drive have you got to swap into your new slimline model, Mr J?

I have a Western Digital 500Gb Scorpio Blue drive still waiting to drop into my Release Day 60Gb "Phat" but I've read a few times that watching "VidZone" causes some st-st-stuttering & dropping of frames. "Play TV" is affected too. I don't have the latter kit, and the former is rarely used, but I was just wondering if anybody else had experienced any problems with non-Sony issued drives.

    BFN,

    fp.

I think the reason I can't seem to complete the 'data transfer' between my phat & slim is because I have some corrupted data on my phat HDD (upgraded 300GB).

I've repaired the file system and rebuilt the database from the service menu, but there's still something stopping the data exchange.

Baffling me to be honest - all I want is my copy-protected KZ2 and SF4 saves games! :(

  11. @fp - I have the WD scorpio drive but in 250gb. Vidzone works fine and without stuttering (when my broadband connection speed is good). The only time I have noticed any problems with it is when playing Warhawk - and that was only when playing the crappy new maps that were added after the game launched (attrition, etc...). On these levels I see some skipping problems.

Sony have used at least two different drives in the PS3. In my launch unit I got a nice Seagate (more expensive I believe when compared like for like with WD). In my 80GB PS3 phat I swapped out the drive and discovered it was a Toshiba.

  12. Western Digital Scorpio Black here, no problems to report other than the usual internet related stutters. Some time ago I saw a side by side comparison of a super low speed HD against a uber fast solid state one - they performed the same, indicating the PS3 buffer will limit high speed drives.

  13. i've got a 250gb Seagate in my launch PS3 but i upgraded my mates 80Gb model with a WD 250gb drive and he has slightly faster (1 or 2 seconds) load time, if that sort of thing matters to you :)
