Chris Cunningham + Demoscene = .detuned

Proper awesome demoscene-esque game/music app .detuned now available on the Store for a mere £2.39.

Just had 15 minutes of warping the fuck out of 'Rob' whilst listening to Boards of Canada. Off to try some Aphex next.

pablo's top tip: turn those damn sounds effects off in the menu.

  1. Looks V.interesting. I've been following the developers for a short time. They have done some amazing stuff (tying to show you guys a link but Vista + IE8 = ballbags)

  2. it's nice but i thought it was a visualiser too.

rob just sits there doing nothing if you play a cd and don't interact, would have been nice to have the the effects auto-run if you left him for a minute or something.

apart from that though it's ok. got all the trophies really quickly too.

  3. Yeah I was hoping for something a bit more... passive.

It got me thinking though, does anyone here remember a visualiser type thing that used to be on the demo disks that shipped with certain PS2s (going back a few years here)? It had all sorts of weird stuff going on to this dance tune, and you could either leave it or influence it youself with the DS2. My friends and I used to put it on (usually when we were slightly unnder the influence), turn the volume down and stick our own stuff on the stereo - it was one of those things where anything seemed to fit with it. Would love to see that exact thing done in HD and released on the store. Come to think of it, i'd be happy with just another PS2 demo disk with it on...

Sorry, went off on a bit of a tangent there. Back on topic - yeah, .detuned is pretty cool, but not what I was really expecting and consequently a little disappointing.

  4. was that PSX or PS2 that had the Rex on a demo disc? i remember the freaky music demo thing, think i still have the CD somewhere, will have to have a goood hunt in the box of wonderous things.

PS3 definitely needs more music visulisers, i'm bored of watching the world...

Ahh, the Amiga 500. I spent many, many, many, many hours with that old friend. I got the Movies pack which included Back to the Future, Shadow of the Beast and (gasp) Nightbreed.

I was an Amiga fan! However, I chucked it out years ago, along with several hundred disks of scene demos. I wasn't really into gaming on it - just demos.

  9. @ reakt - the Amiga demo scene was the fucking nuts! me and my mate Mike used to spend all night smoking the bong and downloading stuff and very occasionally putting some crappy demo together.

i dragged my CD32+SX-1 out sometime back to test it before selling it on and found one of the demos i'd written, bought a smile to my face.

i have the Clotano Workbench CD somewhere, i wonder if you could install that as Other O/S on the PS3 :D it would run right off the CD and take over the system on a pc, but Workbench is kinda painful to use these days. we have been spoilt.

my favorite alternative O/S has to be Ubuntu, it's just kind of warm and fluffy to use... when it's going right that is. did have that on my PS3 in the early days but just didn't bother to reinstall it once i upgraded my hard drive.
